E-PAGA wins

FEMA’s National Fire Academy Suicide Awareness Course Development Contract

September 2, 2026

We are honored to announce that the National Fire Academy (NFA) has selected E-PAGA to develop a new, comprehensive 5-day instructor-led course titled Suicide Awareness.

First responders spend their lives protecting our communities, often under high-stress conditions that take a heavy toll on mental health. The goal of this new course is to provide fire and emergency services personnel with evidence-based strategies and practical knowledge to address behavioral health issues. Key focus areas will include:

  • Recognizing early indicators of behavioral health issues and potential suicidal thoughts.
  • Establishing protocols and pathways to connect individuals with appropriate, timely assistance and support.
  • Integrating behavioral health into overall health and safety management to reduce provider injuries and fatalities.

In the coming year, E-PAGA’s team of instructional systems designers and subject matter experts will collaborate closely with NFA leadership to build an interactive, evidence-based, fully accessible course aligned with American Council on Education standards. This project encompasses the complete instructional design lifecycle, from the initial design meeting to a virtual walkthrough, followed by a live pilot course offering that will be evaluated by NFA students.

E-PAGA is committed to delivering a high-impact curriculum that makes a meaningful difference in protecting the well-being of the dedicated women and men in the fire and emergency services. Through this initiative, E-PAGA will continue to support the NFA’s mission to enhance the health, safety, and operational readiness of emergency responders across the country.
